About Wine Storage

Wine storage is the first essential step we take before starting our wine collection as most of us stay in apartments or houses without a wine cellar facility. Therefore, we can either store them with the wine merchant at their cellar with a small fee or storing them in the commercial wine caves where they offer professional and probably the best wine storage... ...isn't its conditions the basis of any wine storage facilities and equipment trying to imitate.

If storing our wines with others isn't an option to be consider, then creating a cellar is inevitable. The 2 main basic points to bear in mind for storing wine... ...

  • Store the bottles horizontally to make sure that the cork comes in contact with the wine to prevent the cork from drying and thus inviting unwanted gaseous invasion or a "broken cork" during opening.
  • Store it away from the source of heat as that can potential damaged the wine in the bottle.

Ideal wine storage conditions consist of the followings... ...

Correct Temperature... Stillness... Darkness... Moisture... and Odorless

The above conditions are naturally available in the wine caves but not so in the modern housing like apartments, houses and flats where majority of the human population live in today. However, obtaining such wine storage conditions at home isn't impossible. The easiest way to obtain them is by investing in at least a electrical wine cellar or wine refrigerator especially in countries with high room temperature.

Well if that is too much for you, then you might want to consider a wine rack or wine cabinet which at least store your wines horizontally. Remember to place them away from the source of heat.
